Hope everyone had a nice holiday.  We enjoyed ours, and are looking forward to the New Year.

I will be going to the EDD tomorrow to update my resume and post some apps.  Hopefully that will generate some interest.  We will have to see.

Saturday 12/25

Hope everyone has a Merry Christmas!  We are off to visit my brother, nephew, niece and their families.  Going to have our usual potato salad and German wiener, Christmas Eve dinner.  This is a tradition in the Meinert family going back 20 years or so.

My mom started cooking that for Christmas Eve because everyone would arrive at different times and it was easy to just heat up the German wieners and serve some potato salad with it.

Monday 12/20/10

Not much going on for the job hunt today.  With the holidays here this week, I am only going to go to the EDD tomorrow, as I have an appointment with a recruiter.  Other than that, just going to keep up with the job posting websites.

This last weekend, Rufina and I went to her office party on Saturday.  She won employee of the year for her department!  Way to go. :)  It was a 70's theme and there were quite a few people dressed up in disco clothes, but alas, not me.

Today I am doing some cleaning around the house, going into the storage boxes and looking for some awards that I won when I was with Circuit City.  Never know, someone might want to see them. :)

Not much new to report I am afraid.  No responses to my apps/resumes but I am going to keep on applying.  I am starting to go over to the Corona EDD to volunteer with Experience Unlimited.

This is different then the Networking Unlimited folks at the Riverside EDD, as it is directed more to professionals who are unemployed but have time to help with the Networking Unlimited people.  I will be volunteering 4 hours a week or so and while doing this I am able to Network with professionals from Riverside and Corona who are also looking for work.

Since the Riverside chapter of Networking Unlimited is just starting up, I thought it would be a good idea to see if I could go to the Experience Unlimited meetings and then take that info over to the Riverside EDD folks.  I will have to keep everyone updated on how this works out.

This probably won't get started until after the first of the year as I have to do some workshops and an orientation with Experience Unlimited.

Tuesday 12/14

Just came back from the Networking Unlimited meeting.  Some good info, but mainly I found out that the one I went to was for blue collar workers and I should be going to Experienced Unlimited in Corona.  This group is for professionals with at least 5 years management experience.

It is at 9:00 on Thursday at the Corona EDD.  I am going to check that out.

For today we discussed some actions plans on what to do, but mainly it was just a meet and greet.  I think this group has just started as there were only 8 people, including myself, at the meeting.  I understand that the one in Corona has about 15 to 20 people weekly.  Will definitely have to take a look into that one.

Other than that, I did get some exercise in over the last few days on the bike, and with the weather being very cooperative, I even managed to ride a bit outside yesterday (30 miles at a 16.5 MPH pace).

Monday 12/13/10

Spent a little time at the EDD again today.  Nothing much to report, I haven't heard from any of the resumes I sent out last week.  I am going tomorrow to the Networking Unlimited group discussion at the EDD at 10:00am.

This is for folks that are out of work and looking to do a bit of Networking.  I will have to see what it entails and will report back tomorrow.

Thursday 12/9/10

The week is going fast! Not much news on the job search. Haven't heard anything from the apps that I put in this week. I really has only been 3 days though. I am going to apply to at least 5 more between today and tomorrow, will keep updating.

On the home front, Rufina and I are going to go get out Christmas Tree tonight. I know most folks have already done that, but we are getting a live tree and want to keep it though the first week of January (a tradition in Rufina's family).

Plans so far for the holiday include spending time with Rufina's family on Christmas Eve, and with my family on Christmas Day. I am sure we will have a great time!

Wednesday

Not much new to report. Stopped by the EDD for a little bit today. Applied to 2 more jobs, one retail management, the other an inventory manager position.

Still managing to get my 30 minute rides in on the bike, so I keep in a little better shape during the winter months. Weather is supposed to be nice next week so maybe I will take the bike out on the Santa Ana River Trail instead of indoors on the bike trainer.

Rufina wanted her car washed today, so I gave her a ride to work and I am going to pick her up an then we are going to do a bit of Christmas shopping. Other than that, not much going on. Hopefully I will get some response to the applications I am posting.

Monday 12/7/10

A successful day today. First I managed to get a quick 30 minute bike ride in to get the blood going, and then went to the EDD.

The EDD, if you didn't know, is the Employment Development Department. While I probably could do most of the job hunt at home, I feel it is good to get out and actually talk to other people who are in the same situation that I am, looking for a job.

So at the EDD, I applied to 4 retail manager positions, talked to my career coach, and did a little bit of research on companies that I would be interested in working for.

I have been going to the EDD for about a month now, and have even taken some of their workshops. The workshops have been interesting. I have found that there are quite a few individuals that are well trained and educated looking for jobs.

I went in expecting that most of the people would just be folks that are looking for minimum wage jobs, but that is just not the case.

Well, today I will be doing a bit of work on the house preparing a few things for Christmas and then going online and see if there are any new job postings.
